Each year about this time I like to share information on the excellent national Community Association Law Seminar, sponsored by the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL). The 2014 program will run from Thursday, January 23 through Saturday, January 25 in Las Vegas, NV.
This Law Seminar is the 35th annual, and the speakers and programs are always outstanding. The faculty includes many of the best homeowner and condominium attorneys in the country. This year’s program will include the popular case law update as well as over 20 separate sessions dealing with different aspects of community association law, including:
- Parking, pet, and pool Fair Housing Act issues
- Construction defects
- Board secrecy/confidentiality
- Bankruptcies of community associations
- Marijuana and common-interest communities
- Voting in associations
- Understanding community association insurance policies
- Collections
An optional half-day seminar on Wednesday, January 22, is focused on mitigating practice area risks and increasing law firm efficiency. ABC News legal analyst (and attorney) Dan Abrams will present the Wayne Hyatt Lecture Series keynote on dealing with the media on high-profile issues.
The Law Seminar also includes the Community Insurance and Risk Management Specialist (CIRMS) Insurance Masters Program for insurance professionals. Three sessions will be taught at a master’s level by community association insurance experts:
- Understanding Community Association Commercial Umbrella and Excess Liability Insurance Policies
- Changes in the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Commercial Property and Liability Forms and Additional Insured Endorsements
- Amending Governing Documents to Meet Today’s Insurance and Risk Management Challenges
The Law Seminar has no equal when it comes to exploring the trends and practices in community association law. And it’s not limited to attorneys—management professionals and other industry leaders regularly attend.
